The Cunningham Springhouse was part of the Cunningham Farmstead located near Bakerstown in West Deer Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The Cunninghams were among many Irish settlers who were attracted by the low taxes and large tracts of farmland in that area. Abraham and Nancy (Glasgow) Cunningham emigrated from Ireland and arrived in West Deer Township in 1810 when the couple purchased 200 acres of land.
This one-and-half story springhouse, dating from approximately 1840, with its overshot roof, was constructed of poplar, pine and oak hand-hewn logs. The spring flowed through a sandstone arch adjacent to the springhouse and into the headwaters of Deer Creek.
Marie Alexandrunas and the Donald Dillner family donated the house to the Ulster American Folk Park in December, 1999.
