The West Tyrone Historical Society

The West Tyrone Historical Society was founded in 1980 and is based at the Ulster American Folk Park. Society members are mainly drawn from the Omagh and Strabane District Council areas, including the towns of Omagh, Strabane, Newtownstewart, Drumquin, Gortin, Plumbridge, Dromore and Fintona.

The main objectives of the society

(a) to study and encourage public interest in the history, folklore archaeology and antiquities of the areas and

(b) to publish occasional research papers on the above topics and to maintain the societys archive.

Membership

Current annual membership fees are as follows - Individual: 7.00, Family: 10.00.

New members are always welcome and visitors to the area are welcome to attend meetings for a small charge.

The society meets at 8.00 pm usually on the last Wednesday of the month at the Ulster American Folk Park, on the main road from Omagh to Newtownstewart.
