EMIGRANTS EXHIBITION [max. 30 pupils] Activity Book available
A major gallery exhibition which tells the story of over two million people who left Ulster in the 18th and 19th centuries to seek a new life in North America. Find out about, the people who left, the causes of emigration, the Atlantic experience, rural and urban America.

With dioramas, period stage sets, sound effects, artefacts, paintings, documents, information panels and activity sheets.

An education programme led by Folk Park staff and lasting 90 minutes - 2 hours is available.
Suitable for Year 7 and post-primary pupils.

ON BOARD THE BRIG UNION [max. 30 pupils] Optional activity sheet
The companion programme to Emigrants Exhibition study, this programme provides an in depth study of daily life on board an early 19th century emigrant ship. Pupils visit the 'tween decks of the ship and examine the living quarters, food, hygiene, and pastimes. On the upper deck they find out about the work of the sailor on the Atlantic run and the problems they encountered as they made their way to America on the 300 ton Brig Union.
Suitable for Year 7 and post-primary pupils.

LEARN TO BARN DANCE [max. 30 pupils]
Led by Folk Park staff, pupils are introduced to the basic steps of the American square, line and circle dances. Dances taught are selected from the Virginia Reel, Golden slippers, Lucky Seven and Buffalo Girls.

HANDS ON THE PAST [max. 20 pupils]
A 90-minute session based in the Education Centre, offers an in-depth look at objects in a way not normally possible in our other programmes. The following themes are currently available:

Pupils have an opportunity to handle the objects, work out how they were made, why they were made in this shape, what their purpose was, assess their suitability and durability.
